home again home again

finally home! and glad to be here. i've already seen a lot of people and done some fun things. it's great to be home. 5 finals really fried my brain and so now i'm very excited to relax at home. the countdown begins for christmas eve and my trip to japan. Can't wait for either! in the busy holiday season, make sure to take a little time to yourself and just relax.

last night a bunch of girls and i had our secret santa exchange. there were about 14 girls in totals. it was a lot of fun. it definitely got me in the christmas spirit. i love christmas and last night we had a lot of fun. i got a manicure as a present so i'm sure i'll be able to put that to good use. we all hung out and watched elf for a little bit. it was also a good break from studying for finals. everyone was dressed very festive, as were we; it was all a lot of fun. an early happy holidays to everyone!

3 days till home!!!

also, just wanted to say that aunt susan and her family are in my thoughts for this holiday season.

give me some of your tots!

tonight is called eggsam which really means EGGSam. so there is breakfast in our dining hall that is supposed to be a study break. it actually already started. it's starts at 10 and goes until 12 midnight. it's pretty cool actually. a nice study break where basically the entire school is and the best part is that our professors and staff are the ones cooking for us. even the president of the college will be cooking for us. can't wait for the tator tots!

SNOOD

so my mom might not really like this post but oh well. hehe love you mom. anyways, i've gotten really into this game called snood. it's sooo awesome. there are like little figures that make faces and you need to get three of them in a row. it's so cool. i play all the time. i just recently got into a different version of the game which is so good. i got all of my roommates into it and we all play all the time. finals are coming up so hopefully i don't spend too much time playing snood. but for those of you who are looking for a good new game, i would definitely check out snood.

let it snow!

we had out first night of snow last night. the campus looks so pretty.....but i'm ready for it to go away now.

this is kind of hard

man college is kind of hard. even though i've only been back from break three days i feel like i've had an enormous amounts of work to do. well anyways, break was awesome. i loved being home. it was definitely relaxing and i got to see a lot of people. the food was great and thanksgiving was very nice. it was great to see my cousin daniel and i can only hope for the best for him. the ride back was awful. it took me 5 hours to get back instead of only three. the weather was gross and rainy and i was all by myself. then my internet stopped working, meaning something is now wrong with my computer. awesome. then i had a big group project to work on that included two late nights spent in the library with my group. today we presented and i think it went well so that's really good. finally the stress has all been relieved and i don't have much to think about until finals start a week from this thursday. and then home again for a whole month. yeah college is kind of stressful. i'm trying to make the best of it though and now i'm going to enjoy some nice relaxing days before finals.

ct restaurant week

being able to get off campus and eat out is awesome in college. last night my roommate yumi and i went to dinner at an asian restaurant called feng. i had actually been there before but this time was a little different. it's connecticut restaurant week which is where restaurants give you a three course meal for $20.08 (for the year 2008) to promote their restaurants. it was such a good deal. i only paid 26 dollars (that including tax and tip) last night for a meal that i probably would have had to pay around 50 or so dollars. it was awesome. i had a shrimp sampler for a starter then salmon over asian noodles and then rice pudding for dessert. good deal. restaurant ends tonight, but it was good while it lasted.

yay softball

we just had a softball meeting with the whole team and coaches. we talked about fundraising and some other team stuff. i also found out that this is trinity's 25th softball season. i thought that was really cool. we've been lifting and conditioning and playing now for a while getting ready for the season. 21 girls are trying out. coach wants to keep 17. coach was definitely a little intimidating at the meeting but hopefully instead of scaring people it'll just make us all work a little harder. i'm definitely excited for the season and this was sort of the first meeting we've had for her to kind of catch up with us and check in to make sure we're all doing the right things. updates of the softball season are definitely going to be starting soon. feb 15th marks the start of our season. #17. should be exciting!

another movie review

last night i had the pleasure of watching the dark knight. since i was a batman villain for halloween and i had heard such good things about the movie i figured i would give it a shot. i knew some kid who somehow got it off line or something, not really sure but it was really good copy. so anyway, with a little background information i was able to get through the whole thing. now i know that all my friends said it was such a great movie but i thought it was just a good movie. i wasn't too thrilled with the ending and i'm not really into those kind of movies that have lot of action, scary things, and weird plots about money and business (i usually don't understand who's against who). however i thought heath ledger did an awesome as the joker, and because of it i only slept about two hours in the night because every time i shut my eyes an image of the joker popped into my head. i also thought the movie had a nice message: deep down, people really are good, they can choose to be good. so overall i would definitely recommend the film for people to see because it was definitely a really good movie, but i guess that's just my take on it.

big decisions

so sophomore year is definitely an important year. you have to pick your major, start taking the right classes for your major, and deciding where/if you want to study abroad. so far i've figured out that i want to major in educational studies. we've already picked out classes for next semester. i'm in some pretty good ones for my major. although, one that i'm really interested in is special education, which i'm not in yet but hopefully i'll get into it before next semester. while i want to be a gym teacher, special education has always been interesting to me. especially now seeing how involved my parents are in the special olympics, it's definitely something that i've taken into consideration. hopefully, if i get into the class, i can really see what it's all about. i've also decided that i definitely want to study abroad, i'm just not exactly sure where yet. i'm looking at different universities in the australia and new zealand area, as well as one school in ireland. i think no matter where i go it will be a great experience. although i have to decide sort of fast since i have to hand in my application december 5th. so i have a few more meetings with professors and such but i think my path is all starting to come together. sometimes i get overwhelmed but i just try to keep plugging along. i'll let you know how it all turns out.

countdown until home: 8 days!

whew. it's over....for now

ugh. i'm finally done with a lot of work that has been hanging over my head. i had lots of midterms and papers that i just got finished with. and i've definitely decided to major in ed studies and i've put together a good course schedule for next semester. i've narrowed down the places where i want to go for study abroad. things are finally starting to come together. and it feels nice to relax. i don't think i have too much to do before heading home for thanksgiving (less than two weeks away!), which is definitely a relief. hopefully i can post more too in the coming weeks. so i think i'm going to sit in the front of the tv and maybe even take a nap. sounds good to me.

et Spiritui Sancto. Amen

i just saw a classic movie, the boondock saints. what a great movie. while i'm not sure i agree with their methods of getting rid of "bad people" in the world, there was great loyalty, strength, faith, family, and love that was exhibited in the movie. it was great. if you haven't seen this movie i would totally recommend it. willem dafoe does an amazing job in the movie. on a rainy day or a night without anything to do....now you have a great movie to watch. let me know what you think!

i voted!

i know i'm a couple days late but.....i voted! it was definitely a really cool experience. there was no line when i got there which was a bonus, i just walked in, voted, and then walked out. i must say the ballots aren't the easiest things in the world to figure out. they should definitely come up with a new system or something. but it was definitely really cool. congrats to obama.

a few things.....

i wanted to start off by first saying how awesome i think it is that amy now has a blog! i think you should all read her new blog

so this weekend was filled with fun. yumi's birthday, halloween, friends visiting, and homecoming all wrapped up in one. it was definitely a lot of fun but now i'm ready for some rest.....although i have a mid term and paper due this week so i guess rest will come later.

also, if any of you have skype PLEASE let me know. it's a fun, easy, free way to talk to each other over the computer. i've done it with my parents and sisters and it's definitely a very cool idea. let me know if you would like to get involved or if you don't know what skype is. it's fun!

i think that's it for now. this is a picture of my roommates and i dressed up on halloween. we were batman villains. pretty cool right? hope you enjoyed!

trick or treat!

trinity celebrated halloween a little early today. today trinity had what was called halloween on vernon which is when all the fraternities, sororities, and multicultural houses on vernon street decorated their houses, played games for candy, and set up haunted houses for kids who live locally. it was a lot of fun. my roommates and i took a big bunch of kids, where we had two batmen, a dalmation, a biker, a witch, and a fairy, around to the different houses so they could get as much candy as they possibly could. it was so much fun. the kids were sooo cute and they definitely had a lot of fun. the parents were appreciative and got into the spirit of things as well. the kids really seemed to like us and wanted to hold hands and play the games with us. definitely a good end to the weekend.

10/24/08

yesterday was a day full of lots of different emotions. i was glad that it was a friday. i was sad that i had to be in class until 4pm. i was so super excited because i was going to see high school musical 3.  i was upset because it marks the death of a boy, nick posten, who died on our 8th grade field trip. 10/24 is a lot different at college than in high school. this day always brought forth a day of memories and it was a day when my grade came together. lots of people, including myself, went to his grave to give him some flowers. at college, it's just another day that passes. no one else knows except for my friends that i have told. it's a lot different. i like remembering nick. he was a great person and an amazing presence in our grade. he was the kid who was friends with everyone and could put a smile on anyone's face. he sang the green day song "good riddance" during the field trip. he brought everyone together. i miss him, we miss him. he's a great person to think about. on top of the happy memories of nick i was able to see one of the best movies ever. i would advise everyone to see hsm 3!

Thursday, October 23, 2008

last night i watched a movie at trinity where almost all fraternities, sororities, and sports teams were in attendance. the name of the film was called haze. it was a documentary about a boy named gordie bailey who died of alcohol poisoning due to hazing at a fraternity. hazing is when the older brothers or teammates make the freshman pledges or players drink excessively, embarrass themselves, or just humiliate themselves at any cost so they prove to their elders that they deserve to be part of their group. over the recent years hazing has become a huge problem on high school and college campuses across the nation. during the course of this film the audience actually got to see gordie laying face down on the floor, purple and dead. we also saw a lot more images of college students, people my age, being left outside, naked sometimes, passed out with no one around. others were bleeding severely or puking their brains out. the movie definitely used a scare tactic to get through to us; and boy did it work. gordie's little sister is now a freshman at trinity and is trying to spread the message. his family created the gordie foundation and is publicizing numbers such as how 1700 college students die each year due to alcohol reasons. i definitely think it's a good program; college students need to know how dangerous peer pressure can be and that it's ok, even a must, to call for help when a friend isn't doing alright. i want to thank my family and friends for always being there for me and for talking to me about these exact risks. while this might not pertain to many of you who are reading my blog, it is something that i'm surrounded by every single night i'm here. it's definitely a reality check, and i'm so thankful for the group of friends i have surrounded myself here with and for my family to help me through those times of need. thanks to all.

tennis again!

today my roommate holly and i went to the gym to go work out. on our way there we decided that we would play tennis. so we borrowed some rackets and some tennis balls and we hit the ball around for a while. we're not the greatest tennis players but we made due and it was definitely a lot of fun. way more fun then running on a treadmill for 30 minutes. i hope that we can continue to play, and get our other roommates involved. it was nice to get out there again and play. i definitely miss tennis, it's so much. hopefully the more we play the better we'll get at it. we've already discussed learning how to play squash which i can't wait to try!

my friend shay

yesterday i got a call from my friend shannon. it was really nice to talk to her. we've been good friends for a really long time. during our junior and senior years of high school we sort of drifted into different friend groups and didn't hang out as much any more. but we still made it a point to talk to each other and hang out every once in a while. she's definitely that friend that no matter how long it's been it feels like you've never skipped a beat. it doesn't matter who calls who first or anything like that. it's definitely an awesome relationship that i cherish a lot. is there someone you haven't talked to in a while??? pick up the phone and give 'em a call, it'll feel good. so a big shout out to shannon: good luck with school and lax and i miss you! it was great talking with you.

lady mendell's house

for my sister elizabeth's birthday myself and my parents met her and her husband in the city. we walked around for a while and then we had high tea. it was so cool. first you had to pick out the kind of tea that you wanted to drink for the meal. then you were served 5 courses. salad, finger sandwiches, scones, cake, more desserts. each course was really small and i ate it in two seconds so i figured i wouldn't be that full. but by the end we were all stuffed and really tired. the tea was really good and the food was awesome. definitely a cool experience. i would definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it. hopefully we all can do it again sometime. definitely a good time.

a nice break

i just got back from trinity days. it's like our little fall break that happens right before midterms to give us a chance to catch up on some work. i went home for the 4 days and it was so nice. it was really good to see my parents. i also got to see some family friends and some cousins. it was definitely too short but i enjoyed it a lot. i think monday was my favorite because i spent all day shopping with my mom and then i went for a bike ride with my dad and then i got to visit one of my friends. it was a long day but it was a lot of fun. however, coming back to trinity wasn't so much fun. after using google maps to print out directions i was very unsatisfied. the directions completely missed one exit that i was supposed to take and my friend and i ended up in the bronx. that was scary. then we were given some other directions that were a little sketchy and ended up reversing on a ramp. yeah not the best idea but i really didn't want to continue in a direction that i didn't know. then we ended up just back tracking to get on the right path. finally, 4 hours later, instead of only 3, we got back to school. not so much fun. anyways, after all that i'm safe and back at trinity, back into my routine. i'll be home again for thanksgiving, so if anyone wants to come see me just let me know!

more baby talk

in my same child development class, today one of the students (a mom who is coming back to school) brought in her 5 month old baby boy. we were supposed to just be observing him but really we all just asked questions and wanted to play him. he was soooooo cute. it made me miss baby harry so much! so i just wanted to shout out to baby harry and his mom: a big hello and i miss you guys very much! he was just like harry. he was really outgoing and laughed a lot. he was so cute. miss you baby harry.

baby sign language

today in my child development class we were talking about infants and language development. one of the ta's in the class is doing a lot of research on sign language; sign language for deaf and for non-deaf babies. we focused a lot of sign language for non-deaf babies. these babies are learning sign language and are communicating with their parents non-verbally at early ages and are even proven to talk earlier. we watched two great clips of one non-deaf baby who has learned a lot of signs already and is already learning to read and spell at the age of 2 and a half. this is way before most babies learn how to read. much of this class is very interesting and has popped some good ideas into my head about raising my own children. but this sign language seems even more interesting to me. hopefully going into the education department some day, sign language might be a good language to learn, also for the raising of my own child. take a look at this video and this video to watch a baby signing and how far she has come. it's very interesting.

fun day!

i'm trying to get more involved on campus. i don't want to be just an athlete here at trinity. today i stepped out of that box and participated with the boys and girls club. it's an organization that's run all over the nation. it's a place where kids can go when they aren't in school that keeps them off the streets and out of trouble. today there was a three hour fair. it was definitely a lot of fun. i painted faces. i'm not the best artist in the world but i think i managed and i think the kids had fun with it. i'm definitely looking forward to continuing to be part of this group. hopefully i can get involved in some other ways as well. it's nice to really integrate yourself in the community around you. the kids at trinity lead very luxurious lives while the people of hartford definitely don't. giving back really feels good.

trinfield

well trinity softball has officially started. today we did a run through of our work out with our new trainer. this means lifting three times a week with captains practices in between. 5 months until the season. i think it's a bit much but at least i'll be staying in good shape. i really like all the freshman so it's a good time to do some extra bonding with them. all of this will ultimately help us in the end so i can't be too bitter about it. i'm definitely looking forward to the new season, i know that it can definitely be a lot better than last year. i'll keep you posted.

9/11

another september 11th has come and gone. it's been 7 years now. this is my second september 11th at college and it's very interesting that there's really nothing done about it. in high school we always had a moment of silence and most teachers would talk about it. i only had one professor talk about it but only because it related to our course material. my other professors didn't talk about it and i never talked about it with any of my peers or friends. it's interesting, that's all. i guess this is my time to reflect on that day and send my thoughts and wishes to all those who were directly affected by 9/11.

the fam

i've had a rough couple of days here at college. but all is pretty well now. i definitely need to thank my family for that. i'm very hard on myself and i can get down on myself very easily and quickly. thankfully i have such a great support system around me helping out. my parents are the best that i could have ever asked for. my sisters, especially since they are older than me, are wise and have helped me out in some of my worst times. my extended family are all supporters and i love them all for that. family has always been such a big part of my life. i've always been the little faf running around and wanting nothing more than to play with my cousins or go upstate new york with everyone or arrive first on christmas eve or fly on a plane by myself to visit family members. even though i may not have talked to you directly in the past couple of days, i just want to say thank you. i love you all!

namaste

today my roommate holly and i went to yoga. there are free classes twice a week. i've done some yoga in the past so i wanted to try it out here. it's only a 1 hour class but we both really liked it. it was so relaxing but definitely a work out. on wednesday we have a softball meeting and i want to bring up that there are free yoga classes and we should all go. hopefully it goes over well. i know that aunt joan would be proud of me for taking yoga classes as she is the only other person i've ever done yoga with. if anyone has old yoga mats (cough cough mom or aunt joan) and would like to lend some to myself and holly that would be great. i'm really excited to do it again! go out and join a class.

roomies

i had my first classes today. they went alright except i already have homework. boo. anyways i thought i would share a little bit about each of my roommates with all of you out there. (they have been asking to be blogged about!) My first rooomate is holly. she's the tall one. she has very curly blonde hair. holly is so cute, she's very outgoing and sweet and she's from maine. she's going to be a dance theatre major. she's really good at singing but wants to become a tv anchor some day. meghan is another roommate of mine. meghan and holly share a room. meghan is from albany. she's really into music, mostly rap. she's studying econ with a minor in german studies. she's a very real person and down to earth. she is also another blonde in the room. yumi is the roommate that i actually share a room with. she's from japan but is very americanized. she's totally sweet and you can talk to her about anything. she's very cute and gets along with everyone. the 4 of us make really good roommates. so far things have been really good. i'm looking forward to the rest of the year. i hope i did my roommates proud by blogging about them!

trincoll

i made it!!!! i'm here back at trinity. so far so good. all the construction that was going on around campus last year is all done and it looks soooo nice. grandpa savoy, the long walk is beautiful. i never saw it before the construction but it looks so nice. you'll have to come visit to see it! anywho... my fourth roommate comes today so after today it will really feel like home. the room is soooo nice and i just finally got everything packed away. now i have to decorate with the rest of the girls and the place will look fantastic. i have plenty of room for visitors so any of you out there that want to come and stay with me, feel free! classes start tuesday; i'm not as excited about that but that will really kick everything off. i'm glad to be back!

bon voyage

is it my last full day at home. i have a very nice day planned. going to new hope with the girls, then tanning by the pool, saying good bye to some other friends, and then going out to dinner with a group of people. that will all be topped off with a LOT of packing tonight. it should be a good day, a sad day though. goodbyes are hard but hopefully since i've been through it once it won't be as bad. i have been getting more excited to go back to school since talking to a bunch of my friends who are already at school. well i best be off to start my last day at home. goodbye to all my family and friends and PLEASE STAY IN TOUCH! i'll see you all soon!

lessons no more this summer

today brought an end to our softball lessons for the summer. we'll start back up again in january when anu and myself will be home for winter break. it was such a great summer doing these lessons. i hope it really takes off next; so much so that we might not need other jobs. we already have so many new ideas about different drills and more clinics. we'll know what to do next year to make it better and we'll be even more organized. this summer was a great starting point. it's cool to do something that you love doing while making money at it! it's a good feeling. i know that anu and i are super excited. you'll have to wait until then to hear more about it. cross your fingers!

i do

today i went to a wedding. one of my high school coaches got married. it was a very lovely wedding. some tears and some laughs. the bride looked so beautiful. i've been very fortunate to go to some great weddings in my life quite recently, my sister and my cousin. both of which were wonderfully amazing and i got me to part of the bridal party in each. weddings are definitely a lot of fun. i hope the reception went well today for suzanne and erich. congrats to both and i wish them luck on their new adventure.

count down to school..... one week!!! yikes!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

and then there were 11

the count down has begun. only 11 more days before i'm back at trinity. i can't believe my summer vacation is over. 4 months. it flew by. next summer i have to be way more organized so i can accomplish all the things that i didn't get to do this summer. i have mixed feelings about going back to school. i definitely want to see all my friends and start playing softball again. but i really don't like doing all the kinds of work that we have to do like writing long papers and reading a lot. but i'm sure once i get there, all will be great. one of my roommates is already at school since she is working orientation week. after talking to her i definitely got more excited to go back. all next week will be spent saying good bye to people, picking up anything else i need for school, and just doing as many last minute things that i can do! thanks to grandpa i can now check off one thing one my list.... getting the scrapes on my car painted over. it looks great. thanks so much grandpa!!!!

time for a nap

man do my feet hurt. this week i had another camp to run on top of running softball lessons and a hitting clinic. i'm wiped. the camp was a lot of fun. i got really close to all the counselors (i think we're even going to have a staff party that will hopefully be an annual thing!). my team had some really great kids on it. it was def a lot of fun. i love that i'm so busy with the softball lessons. it's great to see the kids improve, and get some extra cash. the hitting clinic was a great success! the girls really seemed to like it and hopefully we'll have an even bigger turn out in the winter and next summer. it's some pretty exciting stuff. well now the week is over and i still have one more lesson tonight. my bones hurt. this weekend i will definitely sleep a lot.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

we've taken the next step

so now my private softball lessons have worked themselves up to a softball clinic. that's right. next tuesday and thursday my friend anu and i are holding clinics for some of the girls on the local travel teams. it's so awesome. we've already gotten some responses back saying that the parents want their girls to come. we're really heading in the direction of a real business. it's so exciting. it's a lot of fun and we make money. it's a win win situation. well keep your fingers crossed and i'll keep you updated as to how the clinics went. it should be a lot of fun!

too little time

it's august already!!!!! ahhh. where did my summer go? now i have to start thinking about going back to school. yuck. i wish i had even more time to do....oh i don't know what i want to do but i know i don't want to have to go write papers and read lots of books again. but i guess i have to get over that and actually start worrying about school. hopefully i will be able to fit in a couple of days up state new york with frampa frampa. august also means that my cousin alex will be moving. very sad but i wish her the best of luck with whatever comes her way when she is out there ( and to stephen too!) oh august, must you come so quickly?

mobile baby

harry is officially mobile!!!! he crawls and pulls himself up to stand. today he was crawling all over and fell a lot. he didn't cry thought which was nice. he's just so darn cute. i definitely have to watch even more carefully so he doesn't get into anything he's not supposed to and so he doesn't fall too hard and really hurt himself. i hope he starts standing on his own soon. and then his words will come! oh harry.

muckers, rummy royale, and the whole gang!

i'm exhausted. this past weekend i spent my time with my family in lbi. it was a blast! mom, dad, sisters, brother-in-law, and grandparents all rounded up. we stayed in an amazing house that was huge and very old and cute. we were only about a one minute walk from the beach. we played games like paddle ball and muckers on the beach. at one point it was my father, two sisters, and myself all playing paddle ball at once. it was great. i don't remember the last time that happened. it was so much fun, especially when i beat my dad twice at muckers, once with grandpa and once with my mom. we took some good walks, had some good conversation, played lots of rummy royale, went on the "boardwalk, i won the jackpot on my second try, swam in water that was 5 degrees warm (not joking either), hung out on the porch, and ate lots of good food, all while having a ton of fun. i hope that next year we can all go down again, and bring even more family members with us (believe me there was plenty of room!)

only two runs

last night there was an amazing sight that took place. my dad's softball team isn't very good. the girls are very young and in their developing stage. we're playing teams where the girls have been playing longer and are way more developed than ours. we lose games by usually 10 or more runs. but we keep fighting. the girls are happy to be there and they are trying their hardest. we have quite a few games under our belt now. last night we had one more. we lost 8 to 6. it was amazing. it was our best game yet. we threw out our first bunt attempt. we caught our first fly ball in the outfield. we threw out our first runner at third. it was such a great accomplishment. especially those girls who are taking lessons with me, it was great to see them improve. they were all hitting the ball and fielding well. it was a great accomplishment. i hope we can keep it up and who knows, maybe we can pull one out. that would be great!

a quick wrap up

so nothing to exciting lately. baby sitting harry is going well. he's still very cute. i baby sat a different baby last night and harry made him seem like a demon child, but i think it's just that harry is an extreme in the good direction. so that was definitely an interesting experience. my lessons are going well. we only have about 4 or 5 girls taking lessons at any one time but that's better than none. then between all of that i'm helping my dad coach his 10u girls softball team. that's also a lot of fun. keeping busy but definitely have time for beach, pool, and hanging out with friends. it's been a good summer. it's more than half way over. tear tear. i'll have to make the best of it.

back to reality...

this 4th of july weekend was a great little weekend. it all started on friday with a little get together of family and friends. my aunt joan was here and it was great to see her. i don't get to see her that often so it was great to have her here this weekend. the rain held off long enough for us to eat outside and swim in the pool. then later on when the rain did finally kick in we lit off some very cool fireworks and sparklers. Saturday put a little damper in the weekend because it was very cloudy and raining a lot. so it was just a very relaxing day. on sunday my friend maggie and i went up to mountain creek to spend the day at the water park. so much fun!! unfortunately the key to our room just wouldn't work so we had to leave sunday night for home instead of spending the night. but we stopped at applebees on the way home and really made a great adventure out of the ride home. good times. a great weekend and tomorrow i'm back to baby sitting little harry. i definitely miss him!! hopefully you all had a great weekend too!

fal rooney olympic camp

this week i'm working a camp for kids in elementary school. it's a p.e. camp so the kids just play all different kinds of games all day. they love it. it's run by my old high school softball coaches. it's a lot of fun. and since being a gym teacher is something that i'm thinking i might want to do for the rest of my life it's great experience. i've also lately been helping out my dad with his softball team that he coaches. doing these things really makes me think that i've chosen a career that i could end up loving. i've been doing these camps for 6 years now and i absolutely love it. it'll all really come in handy in one day. the kids are great and they love to be there; i even like to think that they like me being there!

a good night of.....fun

last night i went to six flags with my friend maggie. it started out pretty cool. we had a nice and fun ride there. then once we got there we realized that if you buy a ticket for the park after 5 it's only 21 dollars! that was pretty cool. i wasn't really into spending 55 dollars, which is the normal cost. then things kinda went down hill for a while. we waited in line for superman, but not that long because it was at night and no one was there, and just as we were about to go up the stairs to secure a spot for one of the trains, one of the workers stopped us and told us that we couldn't go on with the bag that we were carrying. now since i've been to six flags before i knew that there were cubbies on the track where the roller coaster was to put your shoes and bags. however, six flags has now gotten rid of them and they make you use a locker for each individual ride for a dollar each. this doesn't seem like much but it definitely put a damper into our trip. so we decided to forget it and move on to another ride. the scream machine was next. this ride we didn't have to wait at all, we got right in line. then..... we found out that someone had puked on the ride before us and you guessed it, right in the car that we were about to sit in. so that closed the ride for a good 25 minutes. finally we were able to ride our first coaster of the night. after that things really turned around. we were able to go on a lot of rides for the night and it was definitely a lot of fun. can't wait to go back! especially now that i know it's only 21 dollars!

p.s. going along with my cousin alex's post......the new dark night coaster stinks!!!!

you and me.

this weekend my friend, Yumi, from trinity came to visit. she lives in japan and works at a summer camp on cape cod for two months. she came to the states on thursday and needed some place to stay before going to cape cod. it was a lot of fun. we went to the beach, we went to the mall, we went out to eat. it was awesome to see you her and a few other of my friends from school that came along as well. it was a cool experience to see people out of the trinity environment. but i was very glad to see everyone, especially Yumi. i'm hoping that i'll be able to take a trip to cape cod so i can visit her there. but that story is for another blog.

harry isn't very hairy

what a day. it was long, and it's only 3 pm. baby harry is definitely a handful. but man is he cute. the first day on the job went very well. not too much crying, only one diaper change, and the feeding was easy. i'm still getting used to him and what he wants when he cries and fusses. the mom and grandmother were there so that was helpful, they usually had the solution when harry was crying. so now i'm going to nap because i'm exhausted. it should be an interesting summer. i'm just glad i made it through the first day.

finally, a job!

alright so on top of our pitching and batting lessons, i finally found a consistent job for the whole summer. i'm baby sitting again. but there's a little twist. the child that i'm baby sitting is only 7 months old. yup, you got it. an infant. around the same age as baby lucy. his name is harry and he's ADORAB LE. he's just so happy. today i went over for a little meet and greet at the house. i learned where all of his toys and diapers were. what to feed him with and all his favorite tv shows. again, this is me we're talking here so not that much experience but i've been asking my mom questions non-stop. since i start next tuesday i have to pack in all the questions. hopefully everything runs smooth. if you have any tips (hint hint maybe the parents of baby lucy hehe) they are ALWAYS welcome!

our first customer!

we got our first customer! the day we started handing out our flyers for our pitching and batting lessons we got an email for a little 8 year old girl who wants lessons. yay! this might actually take off. keep your fingers crossed.

the little gardener

man has it been hot out. i love it. i know it's very hot and sticky and humid but i would take it any day over the slightest bit of cold. well so far i've been trying to lay out by my pool. i even had alex and amy over which was a lot of fun. so i've just been trying to enjoy the sun and heat and work on my tan. well today that all changed. it's sort of a running joke in my family that i, katherine, don't do much work of any sort. today my mom put me on the job to weed. yup, some hard manual labor. for two solid hours i was picking little green weeds out of the ground in the 98 degree weather. i was sweating so much. and then i took a great big jump into the pool. it felt so good. and you know the best part? i get to do it again tomorrow! well at least my mom appreciates it. so the next time you stop by make sure you check out the gardens.

we're...still....here

yes i've been quite busy.....doing what? good question. not really sure since i don't have a job! but hopefully starting this weekend i will finally have a babysitting job for the summer. cross your fingers. alright nothing too interesting just wanted to let you know that i'm still here. see you soon!

FUNdamental Softball: Pitching and Batting Lessons

so far i really haven't found a job for this summer. it's very frustrating. whenever i apply somewhere they usually don't get back to me because i don't have any experience except for working at a day camp and baby sitting. but how am i supposed to get experience if no one will hire me? it's definitely really hard especially with the rising gas prices. i definitely need some money. so my friend anu and i have come up with something that, hopefully, won't be out only source of income but it will definitely help. we are going to be giving softball pitching and batting lessons. i'm really excited. it should be a lot of fun. hopefully we can get enough girls interested that we can start a few clinics. i you know of anyone in my area who needs some pitching or batting lessons, send them over!!!!

from new paltz to long island

this weekend was so much fun: from working hard to relaxing on the beach. it started with a trip in the convertible to new paltz to help my sister and her husband fix up some property they own. i wasn't the greatest help they had but i built the grill, threw some stuff in the burn barrel, moved pieces of plywood, and cleared out a huge room with my mom. it really was lot of fun spending time with my sister, mike, my grandfather, my dad, my mom, and a friend of my sister. we had a great time with lots of laughs and we got a LOT of work done. then after a long hard couple of days in new paltz i went to long island with my friend maggie and we spent the rest of the weekend at her aunt's house. we laid on the beach and it was so relaxing. i got REALLY sunburned! oh well. it was a great weekend...... did i mention i built the grill??????

she's so wicked!

saturday i went to see the play wicked. i took my two younger cousins into the city to see wicked. it was awesome. the play was so good and i would definitely recommend everyone to see it. it was really funny and the dancing was amazing. the whole production was so good. it was also my first time being in the city where i had to navigate myself around. usually i'm with my parents, my sister, or one time i was with my cousin alex. it was definitely scary but i made it without a hitch. it was a great day to be in the city. very sunny and not too hot. it was a great day and i loved it. go see wicked!

muddie buddies

so i usually eye this recipe when i make it but this is what i try to stick to:

melt:

1 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter

then add:

1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

stir together. this is when i add more of something if i think necessary. more chocolate if it tastes too much like peanut butter or the other way around. it should be pretty liquidy.

pour this over about 8 cups of plain chex cereal. this can vary based upon how much you want to eat.

move the chocolate covered chex cereal into plastic bags. add powered sugar and shake the bag. the chex cereal should be completely covered with powered sugar and they should not be sticky. you can place them in the fridge to store them.

first beach trip of the summer!

so yesterday was a terrific day of summer. it started off with a trip to the beach with my friends kim and maggie. it was a little chilly but so beautiful. i wasn't too hot at any time and i definitely got some color. it was too cold though to go into the water but it was splendid. then we came home and i took such a nice nap. after my nap maggie and kim came back as well as my friend sean. we started out by playing some wii and then we made muddie buddies (chex cereal covered in chocolate and peanut butter topped with power sugar) which actually was quite a production and mess. but they were delicious! then my dad decided to join the action. at midnight he cooked us a fantastic dinner that consisted of steak and string beans. YUM! everyone loved it. then maggie and kim went home and sean, myself, and my dad continued playing the wii until 2 in the morning when i finally had to end it. it was SUCH a great day! today my best friend anu comes home and summer will officially begin! yay!.....i guess now i just have to find a job! yuck!

only three more seasons left

yesterday ended my first year playing college softball. we lost in the semi finals of the nescac tournament. it's definitely a bitter sweet ending. i'm sad that the season is already over but i'm excited to have some more time to myself and to be able to go home in less than a week.  speaking of... my parents came to my room this morning and took home a lot of my stuff. i leave this thursday. i can't even believe it. now i just have some more stuff to pack into my own car and then i'm off, not a freshman any more. weird!

one week to go!

OMG!!!! yesterday i finished classes of my freshman year. finished. i can't even believe it. all i have left is finals. i mean i shouldn't say "all i have left" because it's a lot: two papers and three finals BUT classes are done, over. in exactly one week from today i will be driving home for good. i can't believe it's almost over. it's so close to the end. bye bye freshman year. it's been a great run. softball is ending this weekend too. it's our nescac tournament this weekend. i can't believe everything is ending. it's a little scary but i'm sooooooo excited for four months of summer! yes that's right, 4 months! so all you readers out there i have plenty of time to see each and every one of you so i better be getting a phone call! ahhhh freshman year, not for long.

hpb

today was a great day for softball. we played two games versus wesleyan at home today starting at 12. after some tough plays and bounces that didn't quite go our way we ended up losing the first game. but we didn't quit there. the second game we won in the top of the 7th with a great catch in center field and then a throw home to throw out the runner from third who tagged up. what a great ending! my best friend anu plays for wesleyan so it was awesome to see her. she started pitching the second game. my third at bat against her, she hit me with the pitch. she actually hit me! it was quite funny. we exchanged glances, she said sorry, and then we both laughed. thankfully it didn't hurt at all. it was a great day that ended with a great win. this was our last regular season game. next weekend we have our nescac tournament play offs. should be exciting!

generation to generation

over the weekend i had to write a paper that was about my family and how my family has changed over generations. i talked about parent/child relationships, divorce, stepfamilies, and other personal topics. to write the paper i interviewed both of my grandfathers and my parents. i think the paper turned out really well. it was really cool though to get information, especially from my grandfathers, about their past. i heard just tidbits of stories and hopefully i can hear more along the way. my sister elizabeth is really getting into sharing stories and sharing pictures of our family members. i think that's awesome. i want to be able to tell my children all about my grandparents and all the stories that they once told me. these blogs are a great idea and hopefully you enjoy reading at least some of my stories! my ear is always ready to listen, so just let me know when you have a story!

1st spring weekend

what a weekend. in softball we played tufts, probably our number one competition. all we had to do was win one game this weekend against them to secure a place in the tournament. on friday we dropped the first game. not good. on saturday we lost the first game but we never gave up and won our second game on saturday. it was such a great way to end softball for this weekend. my third baseman/really good friend from my freshman year of softball/high school came to watch me play since she lived only 5 minutes away from tufts. my aunt joan also came. it was so great to see them. they are people who i don't get to see that often and it was great that they were there to support me and i loved being able to see them. but the weekend was hardly over. back at school was our spring weekend. things are a little crazier on campus during spring weekend. there was a famous rapper, dj unk, that was at one of our frat houses on saturday night. that was awesome. it was such a good party. then on sunday we had another rapper, common, come and play a concert in one of our quads at school. such a great day weather wise and the concert was really fun. my best friends anu and sean came up for the concert so that made it that much better. now it's sunday night at 11 pm and i'm absolutely exhausted. it was such a great weekend. i look forward to more of this warm weather and great softball. hopefully you had a good weekend too!

i hope i picked all the right ones....

i finally picked my classes this morning. it's a very interesting process here at trinity college. first the juniors pick classes then sophomores then freshman. then in each class it goes by last name when you can start registering for classes. s's got to go at 8 this morning. i got into 4 of the 5 classes that i wanted which is really cool. the classes that i'm taking are: Economics, Sociology, Child Development, Cultural Anthropolgy, and Cognitive Psychology. the one class that i didn't get that i wanted was Statistics, but i emailed the professor for that class and have been assigned to the waiting list. this is actually a pretty good schedule. i even took an early class so the latest that i will ever be in class is 2:30 which i really like a lot. that's what my schedule is like now, i like being done early with classes. so my schedule could change from now until next fall but as of right now that's what i'm taking. as you can see i've stuck to all the social sciences and humanities and just through in economics for the fun of it! hopefully i picked all the right ones....

where has all the time gone?

omg. i've been so busy lately. we're getting to the end of school, right near finals, plus i've got softball and we have play offs soon. so much stuff to do and not enough hours in the day. i've never spent so many hours in just a couple of days doing this much work. but i'm very excited about this weekend:
*we're playing tufts who is probably our number one competition. if we win at least one game against them this weekend we will be in the nescac play offs.
* this weekend is spring weekend at trinity. there will be many parties and concerts. dj unk is coming to dj one night at one of the frats, very excited for that. then on sunday jack's mannequin and common will be performing so i'm also excited about that.
*friday is my best friend anu's 19th birthday! yay! and anu and her boyfriend sean are coming to trinity on sunday to see the concert. i miss them!

it should be a very well deserved weekend after all the work that i've been doing lately. speaking of work i guess i better get back! enjoy the week!

idk

today i had a meeting with my advisor to figure out my schedule for next semester. we didn't get much accomplished. being at a liberal arts school is awesome and i love trinity but it really doesn't cater to the things that i want to do in life. wait, i'm not even exactly sure what i want to do, so that always makes things a little more challenging. do i want to teach? coach? go into sports management? a little of everything? ah. it's kind of scary that i don't know what i want to do or what classes i should take. since this was my freshman year i didn't really care what classes i took but next semester i'll be a sophomore and i really have to think about the classes i take. suggestions are appreciated! this weekend i'm going to take a long hard look into all the classes and see exactly what i want to do. hopefully i can at least try to figure something out. please tell me things get easier.....

mv for the summer

just a little while ago i was talking with some of my friends from school about martha's vineyard. we were trading stories back and forth and it always seemed that our childhood stories circled around the flying horses. the flying horses is the oldest carousel in the world. as you ride it and go around you have to get rings out of a ring arm and at the end you want to be left with the brass ring so you can win a free ride. as we talked about the ride my friend brought up a song called "flying horses" by dispatch. it's SUCH a good song and it's pretty cool how it talks about the flying horses. i loved the flying horses as a kid and i still love it now. i always think of my friend ali who used to go with me every year and my aunt joan who is a ring grabbing expert. she taught me all i know! so anyways if you too have been on the flying horses or just want to enjoy a good upbeat carefree song i would advise you all to download it. it's really catchy and i love how i can really relate to it. enjoy!

here's are some lyrics:

"then i went down to town
to my favorite merry-go-round
to the place where magic horses fly
and you seldom see a frown"

almost done

there is exactly one month of school left for me. on may 7th i will be taking my last exam and will be done with my freshman year of college. wow. kind of scary. i'm very excited for summer, the warm weather, and 4 whole months of no school. But already being done with my first year of college is scary. only three more years and i'm in the real world; even scarier. it's been a good ride so far. and with softball to occupy this next month i'm sure it'll be even better and will fly by without me even noticing. i'm having so much fun at college and learning a lot. it's been awesome so far. but not being a freshman is a weird idea for me right now. well cross your fingers for this next month. i'm sure it'll be a good one.

high school or college?

yesterday my high school softball team played their season opener. they won. congrats to all of them. i can't believe this really means i'm beyond high school and beyond that team. a little scary. i definitely miss it. i want to wish only the best of luck to all the players and coaches. i can't wait to see them play when i go home for summer vacation. i really miss all of them. although, college softball is putting up a pretty good fight. last night we played a double header. we lost our first game but we came back in the second game with some attitude. we won in the bottom of the 8th. it was a great and exciting game. this season should be a lot of fun. good luck to the cougars and the bantams. it was a good four years in high school and i hope the next four years are just as good.

softball, softball, softball

so i survived my first weekend of hard core softball. three games over the course of two days. we won them all! it was sooooo good. it was really nice to sweep them and will really help us in the conference. i did pretty well actually myself too so that was a lot of fun. we played really well and as a team so it made the wins even better. it was sooooo cold however. lots of under armor was worn and we had to try to stay as warm as possible anyway we knew how. it was however very bright and sunny but the wind was actually pretty strong especially on saturday. it was so bright though today that i even got sunburned! who gets sunburned in 30 degree weather? i guess i do. but i'm very happy overall with the way we preformed this weekend and i'm looking forward to lots more softball. thanks for reading!

Friday, March 28, 2008

over spring break i went to go watch my high school team play softball. it was a lot of fun. i got to see friends that i hadn't seen in a while, old coaches, and lots of parents. i definitely miss high school softball. i love college softball but high school softball will always be some of the greatest times of my life. winning states, winning counties, big hits, big catches, great friends, awesome coaches, amazing memories. i always thought it was odd how frequent some of the graduated girls would come back and watch our games, but not as a graduate i can't wait to go watch them play. i miss it a lot. this weekend at college is a big weekend for us: three games against bates. this is when our season is really going to be in gear. i really do like it and i love how i'm actually getting to play a lot. but high school softball will always have that special place in my heart. good luck this year cougars and hopefully this year i can bring some luck with me to the bantams. keep reading for updates on how the games went this weekend.

going way back

today for breakfast i had a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast with cinnamon sugar on it. i love this combo. when i was little i think i had toast with cinnamon sugar on it almost everyday before school. my  mom would make it for me and it was always great. today it was so nice when i found a huge jar of cinnamon and sugar already put together. i decided that i would go back to my childhood and treat myself to this treat! it was so good and i wanted to say thank you to my mom and just let her know that this is still a very good childhood memory of mine. love you mom!

it's done already?

spring break has come and gone. but what a great week it was. florida was beautiful, the weather was great, softball was fun, and the whole trip was awesome. however it started out with a little mishap. long story short we missed our flight on friday night and had to stay in hartford for another day, get up the next morning at 4:30 and fly to florida on saturday morning. we missed our games on saturday which was also a bummer. we did get 7 games out of the trip, which was fairly decent. we went 3-4. not that great but we definitely faced some good competition and it was only our first week out. we have our first game at home on tuesday! my parents were able to join me in florida which was awesome to have their support and get to spend a lot of time with them. the hotel we stayed at was very nice and it had a water slide which made it like 10 times better. i had peanut butter and fluff sandwiches everyday....yum! we came home on friday as planned and i drove back to nj once i got back to school. i got to see some friends from home the next day which was awesome and very lovely. and today was easter sunday. happy easter! i went up to aunt christina's and uncle don's house. it was a great last dinner to have. i had a great time. i just got back to school about 10 minutes ago. man, have i missed blogging!!! thanks for reading!

Friday, March 14, 2008

and we're off!

so today at 4 o'clock my softball team and i will be leaving trinity for the airport to go to FLORIDA!!!! we're going to be playing 10 games in total. we get one day off where we get to lounge on the beach. i'm super excited! i'm going to try to post as often as i can while i'm down there to let everyone know how we did. i'm really nervous about playing. i haven't played on a real softball field for a whole real game of softball since last june. that's a long time ago. hopefully we'll do fine and have some good times. yay florida and yay warm weather. i'll catch ya on the flip side!

did you forget about me?

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! i know i know. it's been forever. but i've actually been without my computer for 9 whole days. that's a long time, definitely a long time for a college student who has daily reflection papers and essays to write, exams to study for, and of course blogs to write on. i've felt pretty disconnected the past week or so. so here's a run down of some of the happenings in the past two weeks:

* my tennis class ended. the last day was a lot of fun. my partner and i played really well and won. it was a lot of fun and i'm sad that it's over now. i'm DEFINITELY going to have to take another tennis class.
* softball is going really well. we've played a couple more scrimmages and it's really fun. i'm playing a lot and doing well too. AND on friday we're going to FLORIDA!!!!!! i'm sooo excited and sooo nervous all at the same time. i'll definitely keep you posted on how our games go while we're down there.
*my friends and i sort of finally agreed as to where we're going to live next year. hopefully it'll be in a dorm called jarvis. it's so nice. it'll be a huge 9 person suite with all of us so keep your fingers crossed that we get the housing.

ok so really you didn't miss a lot. but now that i have my computer back (omg i'm so glad) i'll be posting a lot more.

p.s. just wanted to say thanks to sarah and alex for commenting. as sisters they even commented on the same blog. i'm glad you guys read it and enjoy it. i love yours too!!! love to all my readers!

best weekend ever!

this weekend was AWESOME! friday night i went to the spice girls concert with a bunch of friends from school. it was amazing. i got to relive my childhood. soooooooo much fun!!!! it was great, we all dressed up like one of the spice girls and it was just so much fun. then on saturday.....it was my birthday!!!!!!!!!!  and of course my dad's birthday too!!!!!!!! i had a softball scrimmage in the morning versus wesleyan, which my best friend anu plays on. it was a lot of fun. it was the first time i played a real game in a long time. then after the game my parents took anu and me to the mall and then to our friends, margie and jeff's, house. we had an amazing dinner and awesome angel food cake. it was great. i got back to school at 11:30 and passed out because i was so tired. it was a great weekend. spice girls, birthdays, parents, anu, angel food cake.....it couldn't have been any better. i'm 19 now and ready for an awesome 19th year of life!

Friday, February 22, 2008

not again!

IT'S SNOWING AGAIN!!!!!! so much snow. today i had 7:45 am practice (yes that was lots of fun) and i look outside the window and there are already 2 inches on the ground. and it hasn't let up at all yet. not cool. i'm definitely tired of the snow right now and it makes moving about the campus much more difficult. yucky, yucky, yucky! where's spring???? well it looks like i'm going to have a white birthday this year. and this better not interfere with my plans tonight...that's right i'm going to the spice girls reunion concert tonight for my friend's birthday!! can't wait i'll let you know how the weekend goes....it should be an awesome one! have a lovely, snowy weekend everyone!

movie date

on valentine's day i did end up going to go see step up 2. i went with two of my girl friends and the theatre was sooooo packed that we had to sit in the very front row. but even with a broken neck, the movie was SO good. i guess most of my readers probably wouldn't like it, but i loved it. i love movies or anything that has to do with dancing, and the dancing in this movie was amazing. it wasn't as good as the first step up but i thoroughly enjoyed it. it was a great way to spend valentine's day with some of my friends. and it's always thrilling to get off campus since it doesn't happen very often.
softball update: third practice today. no word about cuts or anything so i'm thinking that this is team, which is quite exciting. it's going pretty well and i'm really enjoying it. although, today i offered to catch for a pitcher one a week, oops. i've never caught in my life. not even standing up, so i hope that i do alright. oh well.

one down, lots to go

practice one is officially over. it went off pretty much without a hitch. the nerves are almost all gone by now and i'm really looking forward to the season. i think that i did pretty well tonight so i'm just hoping to keep improving and i'm going to keep working hard. we hit live hitting, ran a lot, and did some field work. i felt good about most of the different drills that we did. it's a lot. i'm sore and definitely tired but i think this is a start of something that is going to be an awesome experience. as i said, this blog has now turned into a blog about softball so if you keep reading, thank you! if not i understand.

also as a side note: i played one set in my tennis class and won 6-2. it was nice. i felt good. anyways have a splendid weekend. i have two 9 am practices to look forward to. yay go bantams!!!

the first of the last

alright. it's over. the off season has officially ended. i just walked into my dorm after our last off season practice. tomorrow is testing and friday is first day of tryouts. can't believe it's here. softball has been a part of my life for so long and friday i'm about to start my first day of the last four years that i play competitive softball. yes, yes, there may be work games and arch games that i play in but this is the last four years i have to play competitive fastpitch softball. holy cow. i'm very nervous but i'm hoping for the best. 4 years. i better make the best of it. alright that's it for today, i'm going to go some more push ups for tomorrow.

i had my tennis class today. it's going really well and i'm having a lot of fun. i think i'm also improving too. today, as we normally do, we were warming up and i was warming up along side my friend. then in the middle of warm ups the teacher asked if me and my partner would move to the next court. he moved me up! today i played on a court with three guys who are definitely the best in the class. we played a game called king of the court and i definitely held my own. it was a really cool feeling because it definitely means that i'm getting better at tennis. i just hope i can keep it up!

p.s. softball countdown: 4 days!!!!!!

get the popcorn ready!

i just saw the movie "lars and the real girl" yesterday at my campus theatre. it was a really good movie. i had never even heard of it but our friends margie and jeff said they were going to it so i joined them for what turned out to be a really good movie. it's about a man who buys an anatomical women and thinks she's real and how he and his family deal with it. it's very cute, a little sad, and pretty funny all the way around. it's not the best movie i've ever seen but i definitely would recommend for other people to see it. ryan gossling stars in it and he's really good. if you go see it tell me what you think! thanks margie and jeff for a great night out!

8 days and counting!

i just had my first softball meeting with the team and coaches and everyone. it made me really nervous but also really excited for the season. a little disclaimer: this blog will turn into a softball blog really soon. our season starts on the 15th. so soon. we got our practice uniforms today and our bat bags. they are both really cool. and we get our softball stuff washed for us but i'm so confused already as to what to do for the whole locker room and laundry thing. i'm sure i'll figure it out though. our coach is young and a girl. my teammates have said that she's really cool, i'm sure she can be intimidating so hopefully we'll make the best of it. it's going to be a lot and i'm really excited. 8 days. not too far away. like i said i'm sure i will talk about softball an awful lot on the blog now so you're just going to have to deal with it. wish me luck!!!!

birthday bash #2!

another birthday shout out to sarah! happy birthday! i hope everything is going well for you, alan, and lucy! love you guys!

cup-o-joe? i don't think so!

i just enjoyed a great cup of tea. reading for class late at night and a cup of tea just tops it off perfectly. i never started drinking tea until college when my roommate turned me onto it. i like chai tea with a little bit of skim milk. perfect. i know that my sister elizabeth is also starting to get into tea and i thoroughly encourage it and anyone else too. i don't like coffee at all so tea is a nice boost of energy. and drinking hot chocolate isn't the healthiest thing that i can be doing. i haven't expanded the kinds of tea that i drink but i definitely want to. if you have any suggestions just leave a comment. keep drinking tea: it's warm, caffeinated and good for you too!

shh don't tell anyone

we got a dog! but shhhhhh it's a secret. a friend of mine down the hall got a puppy for her room. it's sooooooooooooo cute. his name is winston. i love him. he's the cutest. he's all of 8 inches long and weighs maybe about an ounce. i love him. but no one is really allowed to know because you're not allowed to have pets in the dorm. but it's just so darn cute. when i get a picture of him i'll post it. it makes me want to get a dog. and being our dog of choice in this family i think i would want to get a dachshund. i think i'll take a trip to the pet store today......

new hobby

today i went to my first ever squash match. trinity is known for squash. our boys team has won the national title 9 years running and the girls have been in the top three in the nation for the past 5 years. so it's a pretty big deal here. i've never played squash or ever watched it. i heard it was kind of like racket ball which i knew a little about and i play tennis. but it is really cool. i'm really hoping that i can start playing. my grandpa savoy, who also went to trinity, would be very proud if i got into squash. a couple of my friends play so maybe they can teach me and there is also a class here that i can take that would teach me. i'm really excited and hopefully i can fit it into my schedule. go squash! go bantams! (that's our mascot, yes it's a chicken).

cowboy blog

once i started my blog i was really excited and told all my friends at school that i now have one. they thought i was really weird and made fun of me because i don't have a facebook. in college and high school the cool thing for people to do is get facebooks where you can talk with other people and share pictures and such. however, i never got one. my friends all want me to get one but i'm just not going to do it. they thought it was really funny that i didn't have a facebook yet i had blog. this is one email that i received from my friend meghan that this image is on. i thought it was pretty cute and that i would share it with all of you. i will now probably get many emails from her with all different sorts of images. if i think they are worthy of the blog i'll post them. (if you can't see the picture click on the question mark and it should bring you right to the page. i'll try to fix it later).

a page turner

so i'm pretty sure that most of family would be able to agree that i, faf, am not a reader. i've never liked to read books. i would always have to read for school and i hated it. now in college it's even more reading. but i've never picked up a book and just decided to read it on my own. i rather be playing sports, just hanging out, or watching tv. however, thanks to my friend maggie, i've gotten into reading. i've been trying to read a little bit before going to bed each night. it's a slow process but i really enjoy it. i love reading books for teens that have to do with everyday life and gossip and such. right now i'm reading a book by tucker max (i would not recommend this book to my family seeing as it's kind of inappropriate) and i have a book by van draanen called flipped waiting to be read. i wish at this time to thank maggie for getting me into reading. my parents have always said that it's so important to read no matter what it is your reading. i really enjoy it and would encourage others to read, read, read! i'll keep an update on the books that i have read.

1/25/89

today is stephanie's birthday. stephanie used to be a friend of mine in middle school. i bring this to attention because i have never forgotten that it is her birthday and i don't think i ever will. along with thinking of stephanie on this day i tend to think of her mother. sheila was an amazing person. she was a great mother to her daughters and even helped me out on occasions. i mostly remember her on the softball field since she was always there to help my dad keep the team straight. sheila died of cancer when i was in 7th grade. she died on january 10th, just 15 days before stephanie's birthday. i love to think about sheila because she was such a great person. i hope that she knows i'm thinking about her. and i hope stephanie knows that i'm thinking about her as well.

love for the fam

to start...sorry for no pictures. i tried once and it didn't really work out that well. hopefully i'll get a little more blog savvy and have more pictures for all of you.

so at school i'm taking a class called family and society. obviously we talk a lot about families and what a family means to different people. the idea of half or step siblings came up and i automatically raised my hand saying that i have two half sisters, but i believe that to all three of us we are as close as close could be (maybe not physically since we all live in different states but you get the idea). it just makes me think about my family and how close i am to all of them. parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, i love them all. i hope my generation of cousins and siblings can continue to be just as close and bring our children into the world with the same family ties. i hope our birthday parties, pool parties, and christmas eve gatherings with continue to be all about family and be a long lasting tradition.

p.e. class

at school i'm taking a tennis class that is actually for credit. what a sweet deal. play sports and have fun while earning credit for school. pretty awesome. i am so excited about this class. i've been playing tennis forever and it's such a good way to stay in shape. as most of my readers, if any, know i love sports. i'm playing softball for the school and have been playing sports for as long as i can remember. i played tennis in high my junior and senior years of high school and i really liked it. i'm REALLY looking forward to class and it should be a lot of fun. we start officially on monday. i'll let you know how it goes.

p.s. did anyone hear about heath ledger? unexpected.

i did it!

it's done. i finally did it. everyone was doing it. my entire family is doing it. i'm young and got lots to do but i did it. a blog. i got myself a blog. i have no idea how it's going to go or what i'm going to say. but i created one. i'm officially published. in college and already published. exciting. i guess that no one will read this except my family but that's ok by me since they were the ones that inspired me to do it. i have an 11 year old cousin who writes one all the way to my grandpa who writes one and all the sisters and cousins inbetween. hey look, i'm already having fun. stayed tuned 'till my next post. being me is going to get busy!!!
