ace!

the us open is finally wrapping up today with the men's final. it's been a great two weeks of constantly watching some awesome tennis on tv. for the second year in a row my mom and i were lucky enough to enjoy a fabulous day at the open! we were in arthur ashe stadium and got to see federer and serena, marty fish and schivone at the grandstand, and oudin, sock, huber, and bryan played the best game of mixed doubles i have ever seen! the weather was wonderful and the tennis was amazing. it was another successful day at the open!!!

one last hooray.....or two

now it's half way through august and all that seems to be buzzing about is "back to school" stuff. a lot of my friends are traveling abroad for the semester, getting ready to go back to trinity, or are ready to start their new jobs in new places. luckily i was able to have a few weekend get-a-ways before it was all over and the hard work really sunk in. martha's vineyard for a weekend with my family and friend maggie to enjoy laying out on the dock, playing with sophia and leo, and eating great food. then off to cape cod to visit with friends from school. the weather was horrible but it was great to see the girls especially since they were all off to start their semesters in various countries. now only a few more weeks to soak up summer and to soak up the fact that i've actually graduated college. soon coaching and subbing will be in full swing!

belmar 5

last saturday i ran in my first race ever! it was a 5 mile race down the shore at belmar. i ran with two of my friends and one of their families. we left the house at 4:15am in order to get a good parking spot for the 8:30am start. i have been training a little for the past month running around 3 to 4.5 miles as much as i could. some days were easier than others. in training i was running about a 10 minute mile (for those of you who know anything about running, especially since i'm an athlete i should be definitely running faster than that but for now i will take it!). so my two goals for the run was to run it in under an hour (but closer to 50 minutes) and to not walk at all and run the whole thing. well #935 did just that!! i ran the race in 49.54 minutes and i was able to run the whole thing! i was very happy when the race was over but it was a really fun day. my parents came out to support me and no one got hurt! the whole gang is thinking of maybe doing another one in august but we definitely decided we would do this all again next year....and make t shirts!

cape may adventures

last week the whole fam trekked to cape may. this year we stayed in yet another new house and it was great. very open and could hold everyone just fine. this year olivia came with us for the first time. she HATED the beach but loved being with everyone. most of our time was spent playing with olivia as much as we could. there were tons of bike rides, games on the beach, food to be eaten, and kohrs ice cream being bought. it was another great year at the jersey shore. olivia even extended her stay at my house for the weekend after to celebrate a little of the independence weekend. she LOVED the pool. next year i hope to have both nieces together at the shore!

x-country or bust

well now graduation is over, college is over, and i guess the new chapter of my life begins. BUT before i went straight home to sit on the couch, i drove with four other friends across the country to san francisco! we all left from my house went to dc, nashville, memphis, oklahoma city, sante fe, grand canyon, las vegas, southern cali and up the coast to sf. SO much fun. we did the whole trip in 12 days. it was pretty awesome! we met up with friends and family members along the way, ate excellent ribs and friend chicken, saw graceland and enjoyed lots of country music, saw one of the natural wonders of the world, walked the strip, went the beach, played boardwalk games, and toured sf. it was a fabulous trip and i'm so glad we were able to bring it all together. this is something i will be able to talk about for a VERY long time. enjoy the pics!

big, scary steps

it's may 9th, 2011 and i am currently a former softball player at trinity college. during the nescac weekend the trinity softball team fell to tufts in the semi finals. we finished with a 22-14 record, not too shabby. today i handed in all of my practice gear, my helmut, and my softball bag. it's a very weird feeling and i can't quite describe it, but my fastpitch softball career has finally come to an end. i knew this day would come and i'm definitely looking forward to my coaching and slow pitch career, however something will just never be the same. My days as an athlete have ended. and something that might be even scarier, is that in exactly two weeks from today i will no longer be a trinity college student. my days are numbered here at trinity and i plan to make the most of them, but a part of me will be missing as my days as a student athlete are coming to an end. it's been a great run and i look forward to the next steps of my life. big scary steps, but nonetheless, the next part of my life!

motivation and inspiration

here's a little something to motivate the team as well as inspire any viewers.......

how far will we go.....?

with only one weekend left to play in the regular season, the softball team is in contention for the number one spot in the NESCAC east division. next weekend we play tufts, our big rival. it looks like we'll have to win the series (win at least 2 out of the 3 games) in order to not only be in the tournament but to host! don't quote me on this, but i think that trinity has never hosted the nescac tournament. i do know that trinity has never WON the nescac tournament. so next week will be full of intense practice and friday will open up one of the most important and fun filled weekends i've played at trinity thus far. there will be TONS of fans, the weather is supposed to be great, and the team has never looked better. will softball and school winding down this weekend will be a great finish to the regular season and will hopefully push us forward to the next weekend in playoffs! wish us luck!!

TCSB

the softball season has officially started! the trinity bantams are 7-5, maybe not as well as we should be doing, but the best start of a season i've had in 4 years. we had a GREAT time in florida. my parents were down, my grandparents visited, and the people i babysat last year even came for a day! the weather was beautiful, not a cloud in the sky and not too humid! great softball and a lot of fun as usual! i'm very much looking forward to my last season as a bantam, it's great being the oldest on the team and really filling my position as a leader. we have amherst tomorrow for our home opener and conference play starts this weekend with bowdoin. we're hoping for a lot of w's this week! wish us luck!

birthday lull and extracurriculars

i have been pretty absent lately on my blog but that's only because nothing too exciting has been going on. of course my birthday was excellent but since it's almost been a week since it's happened, most people have forgotten already! rude. since softball has started it's mostly all i do and think about. we've only had one day off since the start of the season so softball is basically the only thing on my plate right now. but it's going really well. the team looks good and is gelling together. we've had two scrimmages so far that have gone really well. we leave for florida in just a matter of weeks to start spring training. i can't wait to get out of our fieldhouse and into warm weather to play some good softball. i'll let you all know what next exciting thing is that happens in life.

boob tube

last night i finally completed all five seasons of the show the wire. i was happy to get to the end but devastated now that it's over. any other good suggestions?? i need a show with lots of seasons that's easily accessible online. on tv i'm currently watching glee, gossip girl, grey's anatomy, and greek (lots of g's) while also trying to stay on top of modern family and svu. oh yes, college life presents it self with LOTS of down time, even when in season. speaking of the season.....february is filled with lots of "holidays": valentines day (which can be good or bad depending on your situation lol), my birthday (ok and my dad's birthday), and the start of softball (my last first day of softball). i'm looking forward to the rest of this month.....smooth sailing. and for the love of someone, please stop snowing!

bye bye gally!

DC for new years!
Before surgery

well now i've been home from school for a while. christmas was excellent, i went to dc for new years to spend it with friends, done a little babysitting, some softball stuff here and there, starting applications for jobs, and relaxing as much as i can. i have two weeks left of break but i'm sure i'll get in more relaxing and more fun times. yesterday i had my gallbladder taken out because of gallstones, everything went very well but now i am quite sore. so i expect to spend a lot of time on the couch the next few days. then on saturday my sister and niece are flying in new mexico to spend time here. this upcoming weekend we will have my mom, dad, both sisters, brother in law, and two nieces under one roof..... i can't wait!!!! the pictures will be epic!
